Every Nebraskan deserves a high-quality education, regardless of their socioeconomic status or zip code. As the son of a public school teacher, Scott knows firsthand how important it is to make sure our schools have the tools and resources they need to care for our children.
Nebraska has an ongoing tradition of excellent public schools. We should celebrate the dedication and innovation happening in our classrooms. But excellent is not perfect, and we owe it to our students to take a clear-eyed look at ways in which our schools can improve. This means bolstering early education programs, investing in strategic reading interventions, and giving teachers adequate in-classroom supports. It also means ensuring that school governance remain local, transparent, and accountable.
We are also fortunate to have phenomenal higher education institutions here in Nebraska, performing cutting-edge research and graduating trained professionals. Not every student will pursue a four-year degree, which is why investing in technical and trade programs will be critical for our state’s work force. Strong schools at all levels give our kids the best shot at pursuing the “Good Life.”
